Mini Maestros was started in September 2002 by Miranda Boakes-Clark. Initially there were just two sessions on one morning a week, but soon demand for places grew and now there are seven sessions a week which run over three mornings.

There are 3 different age ranges catered for: Under 2 years, over 2 years, and over 3 years. These age groups are only used as a guideline however. All children are different and so the needs of each child are considered before they join a group.

For babies and very young children a Mini maestros session is structured around a format which they will soon become very familiar with. All the songs are interactive and playful, involving; actions, hiding, bouncing, moving and using props such as puppets and soft toys.

As toddlers grow, the Mini Maestros sessions for over 2 years caters for their greater independance. The sessions are based on themes such as farm animals, the weather and days out and through simple, fun games with instruments, early music skills are established.

for 3 and 4 year olds Mini Maestros extends their lively imagination through musical role play and story telling. They have opportunities to play a wider range of instruments and simple musical skills are developed.

The songs sung at Mini Maestros come from a wide range of sources. Some are traditional, some are new, some are from different countries. They are all simple and are repeated many times so that all the children can join in.

Miranda Boakes-Clark has a wide experience of teaching in schools and Early Years settings both as a music specialist and as a class teacher. As well as running Mini Maestros she leads music training courses for adults working with 0-5 year olds and has recently co-written a resource book focusing on music for 0-3 year olds.
